Cutimed Sorbact has been proven successfully as a non-medicated, antimicrobial treatment of colonised and infected wounds. Instead of using chemically active agents, Cutimed Sorbact employs a surprisingly simple physical principle to effectively bind and inactivate pathogenic bacteria and fungi. With every dressing change, the reduced bacterial load helps to create optimum conditions for the natural wound healing process.
Cutimed Sorbact can be used wherever microbes impair or hinder a wound's healing. It cleanses all unclean, colonised or infected wounds regardless of their aetiology, such as
- Chronic wounds, i.e. venous, arterial, diabetic or pressure ulcers
- Postoperative dehisced wounds
- Traumatic wounds
- Wounds after excision of fistulas and abcesses
- Dermal fungal infections
A special coating gives the dressings their strongly hydrophobic (water-repellent) properties. Pathogenic bacteria and fungi also have hydrophobic characteristics. They irreversibly bind to the wound dressing by the physical principle of hydrophobic interaction and are removed from the wound with every dressing change.
Effective against all fungi and bacteria – even against MRSA and VRE
The resistance of MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staph. aureus) and VRE (vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus) against antibiotics does not change their hydrophobic properties nor their ability to bind to Cutimed Sorbact.
No bacterial resistance
Cutimed Sorbact does not use any antiseptic or antibiotic substances. Hence, treatment is not linked to any risk of development of resistant strains.
No risk of allergies
The Sorbact method is safe for both patients and medical staff.
No cytotoxicity
The efficacy of Cutimed Sorbact is solely based on binding and removing wound pathogens without releasing chemically active substances that might impair the healing process.
No promotion of bacterial endotoxin release
Unlike e.g. silver products, Cutimed Sorbact does not destroy bacteria. Thus, endotoxin release from dead cells is prevented, and the natural wound healing is supported.
No contraindications
Cutimed Sorbact can be used without hesitation during pregnancy and breast-feeding as well as on children.
